Yesterday, I craved for something sweet and icey so I decided to pay SweetSnow a visit after passing it all the time to go to the Starbucks next to it. Initially I thought it was shop selling froyo or ice cream because they have alot of those kind of shops around Los Angeles. What took me by surprise is that it doesn't sell froyo nor ice cream.
SweetSnow basically what they call 'snow cream' but I call it flavoured shaved ice. Shaved ice is super popular in Malaysia and especially the whole bingsu craze is going about now. But it's really rare to find any here in Los Angeles.
There are four basic steps to making your snowcream. Firstly, ofcourse pick your desired size and I picked the regular. Next, you pick one of the many flavours they have available. There was only one staff working yesterday so, I asked what his recommendation was and he told me the top flavours are original, green tea and mango. After going through their website, I realise the guy that entertained me was the co-founder of SweetSnow.
I went for green tea because it has been long since I had any green tea dessert. For the toppings, I added raspberry and the guy recommended either caramel or condensed milk drizzle and I chose caramel cause it's my favorite :)
Overall, I really like it cause it's really light compared to having ice cream which makes you feel 'jelak' after having half the cup. The portion ofcourse is huge and I feel the regular could be shared for two people. However, I personally feel that the flavour of green tea could have be a little stronger cause my caramel drizzle totally overpowered the green tea flavour. The price for mine went up to about $4.45 which I feel is pretty reasonable. I will definitely go back to try their taro and black sesame flavour one day :)
