Last night before I went to bed, I was reading a new book called Successful Writing at Work by Philip C. Kolin for my next class. I only managed to went through the first chapter of the book but generally, the book guides readers how to write stuff for the real life working world. These stuff ranges from simple things like an e-mail to complicated things like proposals and report. The book said that it is so important to have good writing skills regardless of what industry or occupation a person has, which I agree so much.
This book led me thinking that I should pick up blogging again because firstly, it would help me improve my writing skills (maybe, a little?) and it would also encourage me to go out more often to try out new stuff and experience new things, instead of just staying in my room being too lazy to do anything. So here I am, starting my first food review for California Chicken Cafe (CCC).
After running some errands this afternoon, I decided that I go get some lunch before heading home. I was deciding between Denny's and CCC but decided on CCC in the end because I have tried Denny's multiple times before and also because my friend did said CCC is something worth trying. When I entered the cafe, I immediately knew that my friend was right because the cafe was filled with people even though it was pass lunch time.
I was actually planning to eat in the cafe and try to get some reading done but because of the crowd, I changed my mind and decided to take out instead. It was a self service thing, so I took the menu and started to decide what I should get while also looking around what others ordered. Even though I saw many people ordered their wraps and salads (which is an extremely big portion), what caught my attention was their Rotisserrie Chicken. I really like roasted chicken but I never ordered roasted chicken much back in my homeland, Malaysia because they are almost all of the time overcooked.
However, I decided to take the risk and ordered the 1/2 Rotisserrie Chicken with two sides ($12.25 inclusive of tax). Along with the chicken, I was allowed to select two sides from the side orders and also the type of either white or whole wheat pita bread.
Honestly, the chicken is by far the best roasted chicken I have eaten. I ate the chicken breast and wings part and that is the part of the chicken that always gets overcooked. Surprisingly, CCC managed to cook it to perfection and the meat was still juicy and tender (even though I took away). I cannot really tell what's the component of the stuffings of the chicken but I could taste some sort of herb which is either oregano or thyme. The chicken also had the right amount of stuffings which did not overpower the taste of the chicken meat itself which I like.
The first side dish I ordered was the broccoli pasta because it caught my attention when I was lining up to order my meal and also because broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables. Anyways, it's basically rotini pasta and broccoli with ranch sauce and seasonings. It was simple and nice but I would have preferred if the broccoli was a bit more cooked.
I also ordered their real mashed potatoes and gravy. As stated by the name itself, it's made from genuine potatoes and not those powdered artificial ones. According to their menu, it is made freshly everyday which is good because mashed potatoes spoils really easily (I know because I have worked in a cafe that was selling mashed potatotes). The mashed potato tasted good, but I do think that the gravy is a little too salty.
Overall, I really enjoyed what I ordered from CCC and in fact I am actually also eating the other 1/4 of the chicken and the rest of the side orders for my dinner. The price range of CCC's food would fall under the average price. But for the quality of the food, I would say it's definitely worth trying CCC's roasted chicken. CCC have other branches which can be found here.
