Fourth Week.

t's almost my fourth week here means I have been away from home almost a month already. Do I miss home? Yes, I do. Have I fit in? I wouldn't say I have fit in just yet, but I am feeling hell lot of better compared to two weeks ago. So for the past week, what I did was just a lot of reading and studying because I need to catch up with a lot of reading in class.
So, the highlight of my week would probably be last Wednesday. I participated in the Production Music Conference 2015 that took place in Hollywood. At first, I was actually in dilemma whether I should go because I didn't have a car and I would be a hassle for me to rent a car to go there. And also, I was actually quite scared to step out of my comfort zone to try something new. But with my best friend's encouragement, I rent a car and went ahead with it. It is the best thing I did this week.
My task for the day was to be a time keeper and I was assigned in theater 2. Before this, all the event I took part in, I was either leading the organising team or in the committee. So as a volunteer this time, I felt different and awkward honestly because I was doing stuff under people and the feeling was different. I used to assign people to do stuff and now I was assigned to do stuff. It's different but good different because it gave me a different perspective of being in the events team.
So, as the time keeper, I got the privileged to sit in for the conference. This was the best part of the experience of all because I got listen to real life music industries professionals talk and discuss a certain topic. It's really amazing actually. I know I haven't had many classes yet, but whatever that I learnt in class and read in the textbooks were all on stage that day and it was really good. But the downside was I had to stand the whole time so my back and legs pretty much ached after the whole day, oh well. At least I got an amazing sleep after that day.
That was my first music event here in the states and I was really glad I went for it. One thing I remembered from this event that I thought was really meaningful and useful was that this lady said, "Always make friends. The industry is small and always be prepared to learn things from anyone at anytime". It wasn't the exact words but the meaning was the same. Which at first I did not understand, because my professor kept emphasizing on the importance of networking in the industry.
I finally understood when I was in the same uber car with a lady and man who were both in the music industry. Even though it wasn't a long ride, but it was so nice to talk to people who are already in the industry and common' you got to agree that it's suprising to meet two people in the music industry in a uber car.
Hoping to take part in more music events but I think it's got to wait for a little while cause I have my group project and tests coming up in the next few weeks :S Wish me luck.
